Ron Halper
Live Production Producer/Director
Ron brings a wide-ranging profile to this project: along with a thriving twenty-plus-year career at ABC News (Good Morning America, World News Tonight, Nightline, 20/20), he remains an in-demand director in New York’s hyper-competitive freelance market. Most recently in studio, Ron directed the recently completed season of Judge Karen’s Court for Litton Entertainment, and his independent documentary, A Final Harvest, outside of it. Along the way he has helmed multiple episodes of Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher for HBO Downtown Productions; The Gordon Elliott Show for CBS; and BET Tonight with Ed Gordon for Black Entertainment Television. Ron is also the director of the American Express Open Forum series, an intimate chat format featuring Spike Lee, Diane Von Furstenberg, Sir Richard Branson and Tom (Top Chef) Collichio.
At ABC News Ron has played a leadership role in emergent events broadcasts, including coverage of space shuttle launches and disasters, armed conflicts, the fall of Communism, plus momentous Presidential elections, all of which fostered a talent for fast and firm decision-making. Additionally, Ron is well-versed in music and event formats (Alicia Keys Showcase for Clear Channel and Soap Opera Digest Awards for Lifetime Television) and is a veteran of countless pilots and projects for King World, Comedy Central and FOX. Indeed, his ability to hit the ground running is particularly useful for start-ups, and he was assigned by ABC News to augment their webcasting efforts, where his distinctive storytelling skills and inventive graphics design created a signature “look” for web-based programming. Concurrently Ron has completed directing, writing and post-production on A Final Harvest, the aforementioned feature-length documentary chronicling the final days of his family’s eighty-year ownership of their New Jersey farm, lost to governmental abuse of the tenets of Eminent Domain.
